The Yomiuri Shimbun about ABC at the Expo (April 2, 2005)
Have fun learning to waltz!
With it's reproduction of the slopes of the Alps where visitors can sled, the Austrian pavilion is one of the most popular foreign pavilions.
Near the pavilion entrance is a ballroom with glittering chandeliers. A couple, formally dressed in tails and a ball gown, performs a dance accompanied by the sweet strains of "the Blue Danube" and other waltz melodies.
Why is the waltz so fascinating? Rio Mitani, who grew up in Vienna and is Artistic Director of the Austrian Ballet explains: "There is a unique flowing comfort and grace about the waltz, which makes one forget about daily life."
At the Austrian Pavilion visitors can be taught how to Waltz. Mrs. Mitani: "Japan is full of stress. I hope that the visitors can find relaxation through Waltzing."
